Terms of Service.

1. Who we are

Kompanion is operated by Kanslo Oy, registered in Finland (Business ID: 3449234-9), with registered address at Lapinlahdenkatu 16, 00180 Helsinki, Finland.

References to "Kompanion", "we", "us", or "our" throughout these terms refer to this entity. References to "you" or "user" refer to anyone accessing our website or using our services.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Kompanion. By using our services, you confirm that you meet this age requirement. Users under 16 require verifiable parental or guardian consent in accordance with GDPR Article 8 and Finnish law.

If you are using Kompanion on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

3. Waitlist

Joining the early access waitlist registers your email address to receive launch notifications and occasional pre-launch communications about Kompanion. It does not guarantee early access, a specific launch date, or any particular features.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send, or by contacting team@kanslo.com. Unsubscribing removes you from the waitlist. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

4. The game

Kompanion is a behaviour-aware game that uses your real-world screen time and health data as inputs to a game world. Your habits — sleep, focus, physical activity, intentional phone use — directly affect your in-game progress. The game is designed to reward real-world behaviour, not to simulate it.

To use the game you must create an account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately at team@kanslo.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

Kompanion is intended to support wellbeing, not to substitute for medical or psychological care. Nothing in the game constitutes medical advice. If you are experiencing a health crisis, please seek appropriate professional support.

5. Biometric and health data

Kompanion requests access to health and biometric data through Apple HealthKit (iOS) and Google Health Connect (Android). This may include heart rate variability, sleep data, activity data, and related wellness metrics. This data is classified as sensitive personal data under GDPR Article 9.

We process this data only with your explicit, informed consent, granted separately from these terms at the point of permission request in the application. You may revoke this permission at any time through your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Health; Android: Settings → Health Connect). Revoking permission stops future collection but does not automatically delete previously processed data — to request deletion, contact team@kanslo.com.

Raw biometric readings are processed on-device where possible. Only derived wellness scores are transmitted to our servers. We do not sell, license, or share raw health data with any third party under any circumstances.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use Kompanion in any way that violates Finnish law, EU law, or applicable local law.
• Attempt to manipulate game inputs by falsifying health or screen time data.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the application.
• Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or another user's account.
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the service.
• Transmit malware, spam, or any harmful code through the service.
• Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the game.
• Misrepresent your identity or impersonate another person.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. For serious violations we may do so without prior notice.

7. Intellectual property

All content in Kompanion — including but not limited to the game design, narrative, visual design, audio, code, and branding — is owned by or licensed to Kanslo Oy and protected by Finnish and international intellectual property law.

We grant you a limited, personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the application for its intended purpose. This licence does not include the right to copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from any part of Kompanion.

You retain ownership of any personal data you provide. By using the service you do not grant us any rights in your personal data beyond those described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Virtual items and purchases

Kompanion may offer in-app purchases including cosmetic items, additional content, or premium features. Any such purchases will be clearly labelled with their price and what they include before you commit to buying.

Virtual items and in-app currency have no real-world monetary value and cannot be transferred, traded, or redeemed for cash. They are a limited licence to access certain features within the game.

Under EU consumer law, digital content purchases are generally non-refundable once download or access has begun, provided you acknowledged this at the time of purchase. We will always make this clear before you buy. Statutory consumer rights are not affected.

9. Availability and changes

We aim to keep Kompanion available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted service. We may carry out maintenance, deploy updates, or temporarily suspend the service. We will give reasonable advance notice of planned downtime where possible.

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue any feature of Kompanion. We will give registered users at least 30 days' notice of significant changes that materially affect the game. We will give at least 14 days' notice of changes to these terms.

Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not accept a change, you may close your account and request data deletion before the change takes effect.

10. Liability and disclaimers

Kompanion is provided "as is." We make no warranty that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that any particular health outcome will result from using it.

To the maximum extent permitted by Finnish and EU consumer law, our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of Kompanion is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or €50, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Finnish or EU law.

11. Consumer rights (EU / Finland)

If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you have rights under the EU Consumer Rights Directive and the Finnish Consumer Protection Act (kuluttajansuojalaki) that cannot be excluded by contract. Nothing in these terms is intended to limit those rights.

For purchases of digital services, the EU statutory right of withdrawal (14 days) applies unless you have expressly agreed to immediate performance and acknowledged the loss of the right of withdrawal. We will always seek this acknowledgement clearly before processing a purchase.

12. Disputes and governing law

These terms are governed by Finnish law. In the event of a dispute, we encourage you to contact us first at team@kanslo.com — most issues can be resolved quickly.
